The Invisible Gift The Racers Will Never Know
I’m not really sure if PC means politically correct or personally constrained, but be that as it may, Merry Christmas! Whatever your “reason for the season” (another wonderful rhyme for the time) a happy holiday to you, no matter what the rhyme or reason. It’s a time for good cheer and merry mingling, be it racers and/or cruisers, and those that love them, a good time is to be enjoyed by all.
With the end of the year also comes the changing of the guard at many yacht clubs. This means, along with new commodores, etc., there are new racing chairman(woman) in charge of making all the crazy racers at their club happy as well as organizing those bigger events which invite everyone to enjoy some competitive fun on the water. This is truly the gift that keeps on giving so we want it to be as smooth a transition as possible. Enter another important part of this festive mingling, the Coast Guard. Yes, they are a very important part of making our next year a stress free and enjoyable one, so they are certainly welcome at the party. Actually, it’s going to be their party and we’re all invited. They’ve asked us to host a get together of all the yacht club race chairpersons for an overview of the upcoming race season. New rules and old rules we need to be more attentive to, it’s to be a gathering of all concerned to make sure that everything is safe and well run. And, if all goes perfectly, the racers will never know. Talk about an invisible gift…
So, if you’re involved in the upcoming racing season for TARC, SARC, or any other group planning to put sailboats into what the Coast Guard considers “harms way,” we’re going to host a meeting in February to bring everyone together to discuss how to make the 2007 sailing season the best ever. Contact 48° North (karen@48north.com) and we’ll make sure you know the time and place. As we go to press, we don’t know ourselves, but will soon and it will be announced in the January issue. ‘Tis the season to be jolly, and it’s our goal to continue this feeling throughout the year to all who make merry on the water.
Feliz Navidad,
