Join 48° North and the Northwest Maritime Center for our Croatia Flotilla
The electric blue Adriatic, 2,000-year-old seaside villages overflowing with charm, some of the best seafood anywhere, a cruising culture all its own, and breathtaking beauty around every turn! Croatia is pure magic.
In 2019, nearly forty Pacific Northwest sailors boarded charter boats in Split, Croatia, for a flotilla filled with sailing, swimming, SUPing, sightseeing, and… well… wonderment at how we got so lucky to be experiencing all of it. We’re planning on going again, and it’s lining up to be an even better trip. Join us!

Why flotilla in Croatia?
Croatia has become one of the chartering meccas in the Mediterranean. The weather is extraordinary, the navigation is easy, and there is both bountiful nautical geography (friendly islands and dreamy coves in close proximity) and shoreside infrastructure to ensure all the cruisers are able to have a great time.
While cruising in new areas can bring understandable challenges, doing so with a qualified group of compadres makes it both more fun and offers a safety net. Other advantages to group cruising in Croatia include personalized intel about availability in first-come-first-served moorages and varied skills and knowledge to assist, should you have a question or minor problem on your boat. It was a fabulous community of flotilla-goers in 2019, and our next trip will certainly follow suit!
Our trip has two particular benefits. First, having run a flotilla here in 2019, we know the lay of the land (and sea!). Second, between our contacts from 2019 and new connections thanks to the Croatia theme at this year’s Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival, we will be able to provide our flotilla goers access to authentic maritime history, professionals, and culture that the average charterer simply wouldn’t experience. We’re stoked about that. We hope you are too.
Choose between a bareboat or captained boat: It’s up to you
When you go sailing with us in Croatia, you have the option to bareboat or join a 48° North / Northwest Maritime Center captained boat.
Bareboat
To bareboat means you are responsible for captaining and filling your own boat.* In order to bareboat, you or a member of your group must be a qualified captain, meaning you have a captain’s license or bareboat cruising certificate. Bareboating is a great option if you have a group in mind for your Croatia vacation!
*If you are a qualified captain and want to bareboat but don’t have a group to fill your boat, let us know. We might be able to fill your boat with other members of the flotilla.
48° North / NWMC Captained Boat
When you join a 48° North / NWMC captained boat, our qualified captains will make sure your Croatia flotilla runs smoothly from start to finish. Joining a captained boat is a great option those who are coming as a single or pair (and don’t have a full group to fill a bareboat), who don’t have a qualified captain in their group, or those who want to learn to sail in Croatia!
