If you have a vessel that is falling apart, and you don’t know what to do with it, apply for this summer’s Port of Bellingham Vessel Turn-In event.
The program will properly dispose of your vessel with the majority of the materials being recycled. The Vessel Turn-In Program (VTIP) is managed by DNR to help prevent boats from becoming derelict or abandoned and to keep pollution out of our marine habitat.
STEPS TO PARTICIPATE?
Participation is open to anyone who is a Washington resident and has proof of ownership or the legal authority to dispose of the vessel.
1) Fill out and notarize DNR’s Vessel Turn-In application and submit it by July 1, 2025 to get pre-approved.
2) Email your completed application, proof of ownership, and photos of your vessel to: dvrp@dnr.wa.gov and tammy.robbins@dnr.wa.gov, and include “Whatcom Vessel Turn-In Event” in the subject line.
3) Prior approval is required for this event. Space will be limited and filled in the order applications are received and approved. We will accept vessels 34 feet or less in length. We cannot accept vessels 35 feet or larger for this event.
However, you are still encouraged to apply to the VTIP program. If you cannot drop off your vessel at the specified location, you are encouraged to apply and if approved, transport can be coordinated or DNR can add you to the list and coordinate alternative vessel turn in options.
