CYC’s annual speaker series offers fun times, and inspiring and informative stories.
On Friday evenings in February, Seattle area boaters are invited to join fellow sailors at the Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle for talks by club members, who will share stories of their cruising or racing adventures. This is a fun way to spend a few winter evenings with food, drinks, and friends, and it is sure to inspire your own adventures.
Friday, February 3 – Bareboat Charting in the British Virgin Islands, with presenter Elly Cyr
Elly was part of two all-female charters in the BVI in April of 2017 and 2022. Much fun was had by all, as they learned the finer points of cruising in a tropical location and how to live with different personalities. Elly will share some of her lessons learned, as well as her favorite places to visit, provision, eat, drink and have fun in paradise.
Friday, February 10 – Final Two Legs of the Clipper Round the World Race, with presenter Lizzy Grim
Speaking on her adventures preparing for and sailing in the Clipper ‘Round the World Race on the Clipper 70, Seattle, Lizzy has lots of incredible experiences to share. She competed in two legs from Seattle to Panama, through the Canal, then Bermuda to New York; before an epic North Atlantic crossing to Northern Ireland and on to the finish in London.
Friday, February 17 – First Time Cruising the Gulf Islands, with presenters David and Gyung Huntsman
On the Summer Solstice 2022, David & Gyung sailed their J/37 Lolo from Stuart Island to Bedwell Harbour, where they cleared Canadian Customs. They spent the next 16 nights exploring Canada’s beautiful Gulf Islands. They will share what they learned, including fun stuff they recommend for other cruisers.
Friday, February 24 – Adventures Afloat & Aground, with presenters Wendy Hinman and Garth Wilcox
Wendy and Garth share their story of sailing 34,000 nautical miles aboard their 31-foot Tom Wylie cold-molded wooden sailboat, Velella, which Wendy chronicled in her book Tightwads on the Loose. They will also talk about the 38-foot sailboat they are building in their backyard workshop on Bainbridge Island. This unique sailboat is designed by Garth, a naval architect.
Admission for non-members is $10 admission, and pre-registration is encouraged.
