Mark your calendar for the free July 23rd Pocket Yacht Palooza in Port Townsend — the largest exhibit of small craft in North America.
The Pocket Yacht Palooza will once again be coming to Port Townsend, Washington on Saturday, July 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Port Townsend Pocket Yachters and is hosted at the Northwest Maritime Center (431 Water Street, Port Townsend).
There will be many traditional looking wood boats as well as fiberglass, inflatables, electric and solar-powered boats, cloth on frame—virtually anything a boat can be made of will likely be featured. There is some emphasis on vessels suitable for camp cruising, but all interesting designs are welcome and equally appreciated. As a general guiding principle, pocket yachts are relatively small (under 20’ +/-) and trailerable with an emphasis on camp cruising and small boat adventures.
Added features for 2022 will include:
· Displays and explanations of various types of sailing rigs.
· Opportunity to see a variety of beach anchoring techniques.
· Demonstrations of different cooking methods and favorite recipes
· Examples of boats fully equipped for camp cruising and sleeping.
· Information on camp cruising safety.
· Info on electric/solar powered boats.
Many of the exhibitors, and others, will also participate in the 2022 Pocket Yacht Crooza, a three-day group cruise to Puget Sound locations beginning on Sunday, July 24th. To register your boat for the Palooza or Crooza, there is no fee. Contact Pocketyachters.com for registration and additional information. Most Palooza display boats will need to be in place at the Northwest Maritime Center by Friday evening, July 22.
