Our NWMC colleagues are partnering with Backcountry Medical Guides to offer advanced training relevant to all mariners, including those thinking about Seventy48 or Race to Alaska next year.

These unique training opportunities will take place in February and March 2023 at the Northwest Maritime Center in Port Townsend. The courses are offered in partnership with the pros at Backcountry Medical Guides.

Here’s what NWMC has to say:

Ever been knocked by a boom? Taken a ride down a companionway? Get nasty blisters while Rowing To Alaska?

These things happen. But whether you patch yourself up and carry on comes down to preparation.

Enter Backcountry Medical Guides. These pros will show you how to tape it, wrap it, set it, and get your bow pointed back in the right direction. The Northwest Maritime Center, Race to Alaska, and SEVENTY48 are thrilled to bring to you two offerings of their 2-day Advanced First Aid & CPR/AED For Mariners course. Sing up early, space is limited!

Brief Course Description:
Combining a highly experiential (16 hour) in-person training with a (4-6 hour) self-paced Maritime Medicine Online course, this program provides all the skills, practice and knowledge needed to handle a range of medical and traumatic emergencies at sea. This class is US Sailing accredited, meets World Sailing Offshore Special Regulation (OSR 6.05) Medical Training requirements, US Sailing Senior First Aid Requirements, is valid for US Coast Guard Merchant Mariner credentials, and can be used to re-certify a Wilderness First Responder certificate within its grace period.
